Bucks County (in the winter) - Part 4 A Surprise Around Every Corner
Written by: Christine Coviello
More than just B&Bs and crafts, but a couple of things to do in this section of Pennsylvania.
Day 4
When we woke up, we were enticed with the smells of breakfast cooking. The table was already set, and we were welcomed into the kitchen for coffee and tea by our hosts. It was so nice to talk with them about the area and about how nice it would be to return in the spring. Breakfast was great. We started with a fresh fruit parfait, then had eggs and sausage. Everything was fresh. (Hey, I could get used to this!)
After breakfast, we headed to check out the new Bucks County Visitors Center. This was one of the biggest surprises of all. Now that our trip was soon ending, we basically saw in the center how much more there was to do in Bucks County than I had ever imagined. We only covered a small portion of what the county has to offer. I don’t mean to sound like a commercial, but as I walked around this spacious building and saw the advertisements for all the things to do, I was sad that I didn’t get the chance to do everything I could have. I made a list of places I would like to return to do, and I could probably come back a few times before I was through. Everyone at the visitor’s center was nice, and I was impressed to see all they are doing to promote awareness of their county.
That night we ate at King Henry’s Feast at the Cock ‘N Bull Restaurant in Peddler’s Village. This was another one of those pleasant surprises. When I think of buffets, I think of cold food, crowded lines, and bad service. Well, this was the utter opposite. We had reservations and were greeted at our table by a waitress who was very friendly. I was confused because someone else brought us drinks, and someone else cleared our dishes and gave us new ones. I hadn’t been drinking, so I knew there had to be something to this. The waitress explained that they work as a team to serve us better—already I liked this place! This had to be one of the best-run buffets I have ever visited. The food was hot and always being refilled. There were no lines, and there were servers at each station ready to help. The variety of food was amazing—from lobster, to carving stations, to hot items, salads, appetizers, and side dishes, there really was something for everyone’s tastes. I was shocked at how much I ate. I ate crab legs and five lobster tails! I truly ate like a King. This was well worth the money and was a highlight of Peddler’s Village.
We headed back "home" to Inn of the Woods—only this time I was sad because it would be our last night. We found surprise cookies left for us; what a great midnight snack!
