Fort Lauderdale - Part 1

A mad dash through Fort Lauderdale over the weekend, from Polynesian Reviews to Riverboat Cruises.
There are two types of people who seem to go to Fort Lauderdale, those who go on vacation, and those who go for the weekend as if they're just commuting. We were of the first type since we've never been there before and our budget doesn't allow for weekend commutes to Florida too often. Our flight seemed to have both types. Half of the plane was looking forward to a vacation and the other half was looking forward to a party.
We arrived at JetBlue Airways about an hour and a half before we were supposed to depart as per the airline's instructions. I used to get to the airport 15 minutes prior to departure but since the possibility of dealing with my wife constantly telling me we will be late, as well as heightened security have arrived, I get to the airport whenever I am told so I don't suffer from any consequences.
We received a boarding pass akin to a grocery or department store receipt. This is one of the ways that Jet Blue saves money in order to offer lower rates. Right by the gate there are a few restaurants, which also ties into Jet Blue's money saving by not having full meals on the plane. Personally, I have only been happy with one airplane meal in my life, so the savings were worth it to me. The best feature of the flight however, had to be the in flight DirecTV with every seat. There is no first class seating, just regular class, and in the back of the seat in front of you is your own personal TV screen, which you can hear through your own blue headphones, which you can keep at the end of the flight. Two hours of television watching later, we arrived in Fort Lauderdale and took a cab ride to the hotel. The cab driver exited the highway and got back on the same highway a few times which we learned later was simply to add two or three dollars to the total fare.

View From the Fort Lauderdale Marina Marriott

After the ride we arrived in the Fort Lauderdale Marina Marriott located as the name suggests right in the Marina.
We could hear the sound of the water and the wind gently blowing the trees outside of our room and found it relaxing to say the least. No cars on the street, no loud trains, just us hanging out nine floors above the Marina. Each room had it's own balcony and we took advantage of ours by ordering some late night room service from Pizza Hut and watching the boats sail into the marina with the wind blowing in our hair. It was a relaxing way to end the day after traveling.
