HGI Waltham

Spending a vacation in a chain hotel can be a stifling experience. Let's face it: chain hotels are convenient. But visitors will more often than not sacrifice the much sought-after local color of their travel destination for uniform appearance and professional courtesy that resembles more a cold shoulder in the name of convenience. That's not to say chain hotels are evil, or that--ironically--chain hotels are all alike.
Boston is chock full of chain hotels to meet the needs of visiting families, the business class and university parents coming to watch their children graduate from Harvard, Boston College or MIT. There is one hotel in the Boston area that, despite its place on the chain, truly stands out.
The Hilton Garden Inn Waltham is located near Boston's business and technology epicenter and is at the heart of historic sites like Lexington and Concord, where Minutemen militias first exchanged shots with British soldiers in the American Revolutionary War.
A chain hotel by the Hilton name and definition, the HGI Waltham is a cut above the rest in the area of service. Despite having a large staff catering to hundreds of guests at any time throughout the year, the HGI Waltham staff is almost more attentive than many mom and pop B&Bs scattered throughout New England. The people at the HGI Waltham are courteous and friendly in the right mix of professional and personable ways. They are always on hand to tend to your needs and earn brownie points for their attentiveness and attention to detail in small ways such as cookies at the front counter, a subtle but effective way of saying "Welcome to Boston."
Guest rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious with the quality you'd expect from the Hilton brand. Each room comes equipped with complimentary high-speed Internet access and remote printing provided by PrintMe. The rooms also have a microwave and refrigerator as well as a flat screen TV with a variety of channels. Although the breakfast is not complimentary with your stay it is an excellent value. The breakfast is a buffet of pretty much anything you'd want to have from bagels to custom omelettes.
For the leisure traveler, HGI Waltham is located conveniently close to major Boston-area attractions such as TD Bank North Garden, the home of the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins; historic Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox; Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall; the Museum of Science, Boston Aquarium and the Boston Children's Museum.
While you're there, keep in form for a day of sightseeing or relax after touring by using the heated indoor pool and the complimentary workout facility. If you're vacationing with the family, kids can burn off the sugar high from Boston baked beans at the Stay Fit Kids center.
Get out and enjoy the fine restaurants along the Charles River, or if you're in the mood to stay in, the HGI Waltham offers dining choices at the Great American Grill restaurant, evening room service, and for those late-night cravings or emergencies, a 24-hour Pavilion Pantry convenience mart.
The Hilton Garden Inn Waltham is located at 420 Totten Pond Road in Waltham, Mass. Call for reservations at 1-800-445-8667.
