Newport - Part 3
A Respite from Reality

Written by: Dominick A. Miserandino
Photography by: Margherita Miserandino

The entire city is the perfect set for, 'Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous (of the early 1900s)'.

Day 3

We woke up today and headed to the shops along the wharf determined to find other items that Margherita swore that she saw in the mansions. After shopping for about another hour, we handled half of our Christmas shopping.

"When they described Newport, they never mentioned the shopping." Margherita said quite excitedly. I wasn't as thrilled by the shopping, but only because I had to keep dropping things off at the car. She was quite happy to find local shops to Pier 1 stores.

After the shopping and lunch, we headed over to the Museum of Newport History. Located in a modern looking building in the historic district, the museum covers Newport History from the time of the Native Americans to the present. It's a great overview of the history of Newport, also giving you a glimpse of our nation's naval and maritime history.

Overall, Newport is the type of city that allows you to get away from it all and envision being in another world, another time and another place. Newport is a city where you can see the historic sites or simply soak up the atmosphere and take a step back to a different time. You can step back into this different time, a gilded age, where men had butlers and maids and tea parties were in plentiful demand.
