Orange County - Part 3
Written by: Christine Coviello
For a relaxing weekend getaway with wineries, shopping, nightlife entertainment, and even a medieval festival, try Orange County, New York!
On Sunday, we went to The Sugar Loaf Arts and Crafts Village. There were a few craft shops and restaurants, but this was actually much smaller than I expected. It really is only one block long, and many of the shops and restaurants were closed. Some of the shops were very nice with handmade items like soaps, clothing, and gift items. What was disappointing was you could see how much potential this little artisan community could have if there were more of a reason for people to come.
We then went to the Applewood Winery and the Warwick Winery. The Applewood winery was small, but quaint. The Warwick winery is where it is happening! They just built the patio where we were sitting. We were there in the afternoon when they have live music. The man playing the guitar was great! We had a wine tasting, and then stayed and had a snack from the bakery with some sparkling apple cider. We ate bruschetta and grilled vegetables on wonderful fresh bread. The food was amazing, and the drinks were even better. It was the perfect harmony of good music, food and wine. I was so happy to end our trip with this relaxing fulfilling stop at Warwick Winery. They have many events throughout the year, and I would love to come back for one of them. They also have apple picking in the fall on the grounds.
Overall, this was the perfect weekend getaway. Both places to stay were affordable and pleasant, although they were completely different accommodations. There was shopping, dining, entertainment, different museums and tours, as well as nightlife. Most importantly, everything is so close and easy to get to. This was a much-needed relaxing trip. I would recommend the Orange County area to anyone wanting a weekend trip with a little bit of everything.
