Pointe South Mountain Resort

Written by: Christine Coviello

With a little bit of this and a little bit of that, our adventure to Phoenix, Arizona proved to be a true taste of heaven, guaranteed to please everyone and leave you relaxed and invigorated.

It is easy to relax if you are in the right place. See I am one of those new Yorkers who thrive on stress. I find life boring when I don't have a thousand things to do. I know I am crazy, and I am the poster girl for a vacation. So when this trip came up, and I saw the name of the Water Park was called The Oasis. I thought it was definitely worth a try.

I didn't think anything could help me unwind. I figured if something were too relaxing then it would be boring. Well, from the moment I arrived, it seemed like the resort was trying to prove me wrong! Pointe South Mountain Resort has the perfect blend of fun and calm. If you want a crazy Water Park experience with exciting slides, it is there. If you would like to have high cuisine and spend the weekend at the spa, well they can cover that, too. And if you would like to be casual, have a burger, dance the night away and catch the game on TV, they are all too happy to provide that as well.

FUN AND GAMES

The Oasis Water Park was so much fun! It is very rare you can be alone and have a fabulous time, but here I did. I felt comfortable and everyone was so friendly, it was hard not to just join in the activities. I felt like a kid again, and that was just what I needed. In the morning, I spent much of my time by the by the wave pool. The waterfall lagoon was just breathtaking. In between reading my book and relaxing in the sun, I would take a dip in the pool. It was fun to wait for the 2-foot swells of waves coming in. Since the Water Park is for resort guests, nothing was too crowded. This made it very nice and convenient--all the activities are mere walking distance from the rooms. It felt like they closed a big Water park down just for us! At this point I have decided, it feels nice to feel special.

After grabbing a casual lunch of a tasty grilled chicken sandwich poolside at The Oasis Bar and Grill, I spent the rest of the day enjoying the Water Park. I lost all concept of time, while riding along on an inner tube on the Zuni Active River. Every now and then, you get misted with water, and the arching water jets were a nice surprise.

Then my moment of courage came: I decided I wanted to try some of the slides! Walking the 8 stories up, I will admit I was scared. Watching the small children run with excitement past me gave me that push I needed. I figured if they could do it, so can I! I started with the Sidewinder Slide. This one is a 42-foot drop with twists and turns that wind down until you enter a splash pool. This was a fast slide, but the turns made it quite different from an ordinary straight drop because it makes you sway and rock all the way down. This was my favorite slide; so I tried it out a few times. Next, I tried the dramatic Free Fall Slide. This is a straight drop from 67 feet! Just as I thought I couldn't do it--it was over. You drop really quick--it is a true rush! There is another slide called the Roadrunner, this one comes from the same height, but starts slightly differently.

It is fun to watch kids of all ages try to have races to see who makes it to the bottom first. I ended this long day of excitement in the hot tub to ease my muscles after all that activity. This is a nice spot towards the back of the Water Park!
