Pointe South Mountain Resort

Written by: Christine Coviello

With a little bit of this and a little bit of that, our adventure to Phoenix, Arizona proved to be a true taste of heaven, guaranteed to please everyone and leave you relaxed and invigorated.

I have to mention since we are in the "fun and games" section of this story, that there are some very cool places on resort grounds to eat and hang out. Aunt Chilada's, a nice Mexican Restaurant serves very good food. All the food was delicious, the salsa is fresh, and the atmosphere is nice and comfortable.

Rustler's Rooste is a western steakhouse in every sense of the word. From the minute you walk into this establishment, you know you are in for a good time. From the sawdust on the floor to the live band, this place seems authentic. We had some drinks and danced the night away. This is very casual--jeans are just fine and welcomed. The staff was courteous, and the menu had something for everyone.

Lastly, The Sports Bar is a good place just to hang out, watch the game with a few friends, and relax.

I could have easily spent my entire weekend doing exciting things. There were so many other activities I could have chosen from. In fact, I wished I had more time to try my hand at The Phantom Horse Golf Course. This is a par 71 course and measures over 6,300 yards. I took a tour of the grounds, and it was just magnificent. There is tennis, hiking, mountain biking, water volleyball, and so much more. If you want it to be, this can easily be the adventure, exciting trip you have been looking for.

AN INDULGING SPA EXPERIENCE

I think the best part of this resort is the flexibility to have the trip be exactly what you need all in the same location. I treated all my senses to an amazing experience. I first started with breakfast at The Phantom Horse Grill. Everything looked delicious. I decided to have the buffet so I can taste a little of it all. Then after breakfast, I spent some time in the Adult Only pool and Jacuzzi. This was a nice escape from the more crowded and noisier areas of the resort. I relaxed by the pool, and for the first time in a long time, I finally felt like I could just breathe. No one bothers you, you can plan your day as you desire, and doing a little bit of nothing felt great to me!

Then it was off to The Phantom Horse Athletic Club and Spa for my 1-hour massage with Glen. Boy, this was a treat! I walked into a room with candles lit and rose petals strewn across the table. This was heaven! By the time my massage was over, I felt like I must have been in a coma and emerged so invigorated, I could have run a marathon. They have many spa treatments available, and I only wish I had the time to try more. I then spent some time in the sauna, and then showered to get dressed for lunch.
I walked around the 38,000 square foot Athletic club and watched some classes taking place. They have classes regularly, and I came back the next morning for a Tai Chi class. There is so much available here to take part in--classes, spa treatments, a 20-meter lap pool, hair salon, racquetball, basketball, and more.

I ate at The Phantom Horse Grill. The balcony overlooking the resort is a wonderful spot to sit and reflect on how beautiful the grounds are. At night, everything is lit up and looks very dramatic. I truly decided to indulge myself and took a night swim in the pool. This was a wonderful experience for me because even at night it is so warm. Afterwards I curled up on my couch and watched a movie. Sometimes when you go on a trip, the last place you want to be is in your room. Here, that isn't the case. My room was a warm spacious suite with a lounge area and balcony. The bedding was soft and inviting.

The Concierge Lounge is well worth it, too. This is a wonderful service they provide to the resort guests. Not only did they have appropriate snacks throughout the day (breakfast, happy hour, etc.), but whoever was working the desk was quick to offer advice, make calls, or do whatever was needed. I got the impression this was not just because this was their job, but also because they truly wanted to have a good time. I checked my email from the computer in the lounge and received my 5-minute dose of too much reality.

I think what makes this resort so relaxing is not only the many services available to you, but if you don't want to do anything at all, that is just fine, too. The staff is happy to help you relax whether relaxing is an adventure trip with golfing, hiking, swimming and sliding--or being pampered at the spa and doing nothing at all.

I was at The Pointe South Mountain Resort for the weekend, but being in Phoenix, Arizona with so much to do in the surrounding area, this trip could have easily been much longer. I feel funny writing this because I do not want to sound cheesy or like a commercial, but this truly was the best trip I have been on by far. The flight there was well worth it. I have recommended this trip to everyone and I haven't stopped talking about it since.
