Sea World is usually known for being a land of waters, but even in the middle of a thunderstorm our reporter has some fun.
Unfortunately, on the day that we planned our day trip to Sea World, it was pouring torrential rain in Orlando, Florida. Coming from strong stock, born and bred in Brooklyn, a little rain was not going to daunt us. Therefore, with ponchos in hand, we were off to Sea World. We even called to make sure that Sea World was open, and they too are unrelenting to the elements. In their parking lot, we ran from our car, thinking we would definitely be the only ones brave or stupid enough to venture out.
We found that there were lots of other wet souls determined to enjoy their vacation, come hell or high water. This was the high water.
Shamu in Action
We went directly to see the Shamu show, Shamu Adventure, where we sat above the first fourteen rows in order to avoid the rain and splashing. The killer whales were worth getting drenched for. I was so impressed in how the trainers rode on the backs of the whales at great speed as well as swimming and diving along side of them.
The whales' beauty, training, and intelligence left you laughing, clapping, ooohing and aaahing. If you're lucky enough, you might be picked to be one of the audience volunteers who actually get to pet one of these magnificent creatures up close.
Next, we stopped at the Anheuser-Busch Hospitality Center. Anheuser-Busch is the owner and sponsor of Sea World. There we took a beer class, informing us of how beer was made. Not being a beer drinker, I still found it interesting, while my husband found the taste testing even better. It was a great marketing tool because now Don only swears by Budweiser Beer. Right near the Hospitality Center, we stopped in to see the famous Clydesdales Horses, which are magnificent looking animals.
So far, we stayed pretty dry going from one indoor activity to another, but now it really began to pour so we ducked into a restaurant for a barbeque buffet. This proved to be a great choice with lots of barbequed items to choose from: chicken, ribs, fish, baked beans, corn on the cob and so much more. After coffee and hot apple cobbler, we were dry and full.
We headed off to see the coral reef, an indoor exhibit of colored fish. Donald had a revelation about beer at the Anheuser-Busch Hospitality Center, now I had my personal revelation in the coral reef. I decided that these fish were so beautiful that I would love to have an aquarium at home. Watching them swim about so smoothly and peacefully, made me forget how dampened and chilled I felt.
We hit the Stingray Cove and the Dolphin Cove next, but unfortunately we now found ourselves in a Floridian downpour and our wet jeans were beginning to stick to our legs.
Sea World's Park
Luckily, we managed to stop at a few gift shops on the way out, since no trip is complete without a souvenir.
We did have a great overview of Sea World, but on our future travel agenda, we will definitely have to come back on a sunny day. There was so much more to this park that we were not able to see.
