Cruising - Part 14

Written by: Dominick A. Miserandino
Photography by: Margherita Miserandino

Today we cruised towards Copenhagen. There was one adventure that happened that made me feel like I screwed up the entire cruise.

I was in the computer room, checking the internet and getting odd requests from Michael on the staff. I was approached by a tall, older, balding, congenial doctor who reminded me a bit of Kojak. I didn’t say this when I was approached by him, but thought this.

"Are you Dominick?" he asked.

"Whose asking?" I said. I mean, what if he was upset at me. Also, I was here incognito. Nobody knew who I was and I certainly wasn’t wearing a nametag. My name is too long for such things.

"Sue mentioned that you were on board. She told me you wrote a book and she was talking about you." He responded.

Sue whom? I thought.

"Sue who" I asked, as I was just thinking that ,and it seemed the only appropriate thing to say.

At this point he mentioned which Sue was on board. I will not divulge her name but lets just call her Sue X. If I did say her name you’ll understand my reaction.

"Sue X is on board? And she’s heard of me?" I was perplexed as you can well see.

How does this all relate. Well, first is the question of why Sue X, who has sold literally millions of books and is a New York Times best seller, had heard of me? My book might be brilliant and perfect, but it certainly wasn’t in her caliber. Secondly, what was she saying about little old me? But lastly, was the story of one of the best parts of this boat and how I screwed it up.

On this boat was Sue X, the famous author. I learned later that there was a Rockefeller on board, a few dozen CEOs, etc... Here was a networking opportunity of the century and we spent all the time staring at Fjords.

Anyway, that is Silversea, lifestyles of the rich and famous that is actually obtainable for the average Joe.
