Copenhagen and Departure - Part 15

Today we docked in Copenhagen, and we kept our bags on board while we explored the town one more time.
We grabbed a taxi and tried to head straight for Tivoli, which is what everybody talks about. The cab driver explained that Tivoli doesn’t open until 11 but that Christiania is a wonderful place to go. He said all the tourists go there and we’d love it. He explained that it was a great place that you would even take your mother-in-law to.
To summarize the area, it’s basically a section of town that hippies and anarchists took over 30 years ago as a "Social Experiment". They deal drugs openly and live essentially rent-free. They follow their own laws and seem happy about it.
We walked in no more than 50 yards at the intersection of "Pusher Street" (where the drug pusher’s are) and another cross street. It was there that Margherita wanted to leave.
I’m not sure if it was the rabid dog to our right or the drug dealers in front of us. Maybe it was the unusual characters to our left or perhaps it was the man on the floor overdosing on drugs spewing up his basic vital organs.
We promptly left and started walking through the city.
Our next stop was Tivoli but it also started raining at the same time. Tivoli is a beautiful and wonderful amusement park right in the heart of the city. It’s also very old and was one of the inspirations for Disney World. However, we were there during the rain. It’s not as pretty during the rain, but we did circle it and it is certainly a precursor to Disney World.
We took the taxi back to the ship and soon were packed and headed towards the airport.
But that was it. That was our trip to Norway aboard Silversea Cruises.
And how was the cruise, in retrospect. Two words come to mind, luxury and service. Never have we experienced such levels of either and now Margherita is completely spoiled. The local pub doesn’t have the same feel as it once did as she now expects to have the servers at her beck and call as on the ship.
The clientele were at a completely different level, as we normally associate with the local fireman, friends and family. I regretted not having met more of the CEOs, famous authors and the like, but that was the nature of the ship. If you want to know "how the other half" lives, then, this is how you’ll live like the "other half".
It is certainly something we would do again, again and again.
