A day at sea is a day of rest or not?

We really seemed to start everything off with a bang. Last night we had our first dinner in the non-traditional dining room and then the next morning, we ordered room service. Buckwheat pancakes, right on our balcony. Outside was the sea, and I was sitting in my boxer shorts quite contently.

Margherita ran to the balcony screaming, "What if somebody sees you?"

"You mean the man in the tanker 40 miles away?"

But a new tradition started on this trip. We did what we like to do together, but took the time apart to follow our own interests. Margherita wanted to do yoga. Unbeknownst to her at the time, I actually have an interest in yoga, but I had no interest in doing it with her. I could imagine it already, "You need to stretch like this. Walk like that."

"No honey, go yoga-fy on your own." I created the unusual verb to show my flippancy.

At 10:30 she roped me into a lecture on the Zone Diet, but I sat there listening half-heartedly. Every few minutes I responded "Carbs are the enemy" and the nutritionist nodded approvingly.

We then attended Chef Anri’s cooking demonstration, which involved making a salad with lobster. Don’t ask me how it’s done. She sat there quite entranced, and I simply waited for the sampling portion and sucked down the lobster salad . She was happy; I was happy. It was good.

For lunch, we went to the buffet and then went back to the room and slept. I mean, honestly, I woke up at seven in the morning and even went to the gym. I’m only human. Again, this is another reason I love cruises. The bedroom is never far away.

At mid-afternoon we attended a very interesting lecture by a former British member of Parliament on the role of the monarchy in the British Empire.

After that we went to the pool. Margherita, who is aquaphobic, seemed to love her newfound discovery that salt water helps you float.

"Yes, dear, it’s a new way of doing it."

After the pool, Margherita spent an extra hour changing while I did my own work at the Internet Lounge. Then it was to the Captain’s reception, where we ran into the British guy, Sir John the Brit. Margherita saw that I was very interested in his earlier lecture, so she invited him to join us for dinner. For the next three hours, I learned more about government politics than I could ever garner from CNN. What more could I ask for?
