Woodloch Pines - Part 2

Written by: Janet Pope

On Saturday night, they ask the guests to dress up, and most people enjoyed the opportunity to do so. Dinner was delicious, and again we got to enjoy another soup and salad, as well as a choice of main courses. During dinner, characters and celebrities from the 1960's paraded past us, as a prelude to that night's musical review in the Night Club. Goldie Hawn from Laugh-In and Samantha from Bewitched caught the attention of the gentlemen, while the Beatles helped us reminisce and Spiderman and Elmo drew oohs and ahhs from the younger set. It was a fun, festive atmosphere. The after dinner show, was well done and upbeat, and the songs from that decade had everyone singing along.

The snow was coming down non-stop and an announcement had been made that if anyone wanted to sleep over for an extra night there would be a discount. I was so busy with the day's activities and looking forward to each meal that I had completely forgotten about the snow. Then I realized that I needed to get back to work on Monday morning and so tomorrow would have to be our last day. Otherwise, I would have been very happy to be snowed in here indefinitely. After the show, we went to the North Lodge bar and enjoyed a drink before snuggling toasty warm under the covers.

The next morning we had the nerve to eat yet another large breakfast. This was delightful gluttony. After breakfast, there is usually a non-denominational service run by a minister. But since the minister couldn't make it, due to the blizzard, the owner pitched in. He really wears many hats. Over the course of this weekend we saw him: greet people, clean off tables, serve dinners, greet more people, give the updated weather report, oversee staff, greet more people and now take on the role of minister. We were impressed with his hands-on approach to his business. After prayers, we signed up for a guided tour of the kitchen, which I always find fascinating. How can they get out over 600 dinners hot and on time, when I find a dinner party for six daunting?

Our last meal here was our best. If you like buffets, which I do, this was a great one. There were both hot and cold entrees and even P&J sandwiches for the little ones.

It was time to pack and to face the bitter cold. Don went out to clear the two feet of snow off our car-- I told you it snowed all night! Thank goodness the roads were all clear, making our ride home easy.

Woodloch Pines is a great family place, one that I would love to visit again, which is not something I often say. I feel that there are so many exciting and fascinating places to discover in the world, that I rarely want to spend my precious time to going back to a place I have already seen. But I loved Woodloch Pines for its warm family atmosphere, the abundance of activities, the wonderful meals and the rich pride the family has in its product. When I return there, it will be in a season other than winter. I've had my fill of snow.
