Girls premiered on April 15, 2012 and is currently in its second season on HBO. The television series is written and produced by Lena Dunham, who also stars as a central character, Hannah Horvath. Hannah and her three female friends Jessa, Marnie, and Shoshanna are the lead characters, portraying the lives of 20-somethings living in New York City. The show has been critically acclaimed and has developed a large fan base, but has also received criticism for many different reasons such as a lack of racial diversity in the cast and Dunham's pervasive nudity are a few examples. Recently, the show won two Golden Globes for Dunham's performance and for 'Best Television Show, Comedy or Musical'.
The show has since been picked up for a third season.
