'Simpsons' creator Al Jean: I'll never split up Marge and Homer Simpson and here's why

If you’re still reeling over the split between Kermit and Miss Piggy, don’t worry, your heart won’t be broke again because of another iconic television couple. Simpsons creator Al Jean is now denying divorce rumors between Marge and Homer Simpson.

The longest-running couple on TV appeared to have split in the season premiere, but it ended up being a dream (within a dream, within another dream) that Lena Dunham had.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jean said fans of the show take their characters “seriously” so they would never split up the main couple, who feels like our “extended family.”

“We get away with a lot of stuff, but people want Homer with Marge; people want Lisa to have a little sense that she might win someday; they want Bart not to be all bad,” he explained. “There's stuff you have to obey because that's what people want in the show.”

He went on to put in his two cents about why we react the way we do about fake divorces like Kermit and Piggy’s, and Jean said, “people like seeing reality in a safe guise of say puppets or cartoon characters exploring where it'd be too tragic if it was a real couple.”
