Paul McCartney pays tribute to Elvis Presley with Graceland visit

Paul McCartney was in Memphis this weekend for his current tour and, as a big Elvis Presley fan, the former Beatle had to pay his respects to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll by visiting Graceland.

The “Band on the Run” singer posted a picture of himself on Twitter laying a guitar pick at Presley’s grave site with the message “paying respects.” The pick was “so Elvis can play in heaven.”

McCartney also posted another picture, posing with one of Presley’s guitars.

While this is the first time McCartney visited Graceland, he did famously meet with the King in 1965 while the Beatles were still together. As The Daily Mail notes, the group and Presley met in Los Angeles and the Fab Four were so surprised to be in his very presence that they were speechless for a moment. “Well, if you guys are just gonna sit there and stare at me all night, I’m going to bed,” Presley reportedly said to break the ice.

McCartney is currently on his Out There tour and will be performing two shows in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week. The U.S. part of the tour ends in Seattle on July 19 before he heads to Canada in August.

McCartney fans are also celebrating the release of the remastered Wings Over America, which hits stores today.
