Shane & Shane: Bring Your Nothing

With the new record from gospel acoustic duo, Shane & Shane, titled “Bring Your Nothing”, it’s back to basics for the duo, getting back to stripped down acoustic and piano music for the most part.

The album starts off with “The One You’ll Find”, which brings it back to the old school folksy type that launched them oh so many years ago. It moves down the line to the title track, “Bring Your Nothing” with a funky and soulful feel.
Sadly though, for the majority for the record, it is much of the same. Nothing seems to step those songs out from the others. That is, until we get to the last few tracks.

The three major hits on the album seem to be “Crucify Him”, “Without Jesus”, and “Faith to Believe”. With “Crucify Him”, we have a song that points to where a lot of Christians are in their faith, which is fake. It is a song of pain and sorrow, but yet has that strong glimmer of hope. With “Without Jesus”, it is easily one the best songs, not just on this record, but in the entire arsenal of Shane & Shane’s history. The final song that is worth mentioning on this record is that of “Faith to Believe”. With strong lyrics like, “Even when I cant see you, you’re still shining. Even when I can’t hear you, you’re still calling. Even When I cant feel you, you’re arms are open always holding on to me”, it is plain to see that this bookends a good and solid album.

With all of this said, this album could be better, but is pretty solid. I look forward to seeing what Shane & Shane do next.
