After the release of Phil Robertson, star of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” fans and bloggers have posted a video of Robertson’s speech to the Sportsmen’s Ministry in 2009 in Georgia, advising men to pick girls who are 15 or 16.
According to Slate, Robertson gave two reasons for this young age: cooking and spirituality. “Make sure that she can cook a meal, you need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out,” he said. “Make sure she carries her Bible. That’ll save you a lot of trouble down the road. And if she picks your ducks, now, that’s a woman.”
By “picking ducks,” Robertson means the task of plucking the feathers off ducks as a familial role. His attitude on family centers on family meals and shared responsibilities, said National Enquirer. “My idea of happiness is killin’ things, skinnin’ things, pluckin’ things and having a big meal with all of your children and grandchildren around,” Robertson said.
According to Wonderwall, Georgian law states that a young person cannot sign the marriage license until 16, with parental consent. In Louisiana, females under 16 must file for the marriage license.
