29 year old Dreonna Breton was fired from her job at Horizons Healthcare Services in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for refusing a flu shot.

Breton has an 18 month old and another child on the way, according to USA Today. However, she has also suffered from three miscarriages.

Her employer, Horizons Healthcare Services announced that it would be mandatory for all of its employees to get the flu shot and Breton refused. She had done some research on the flu shot and its effect on pregnant women and because she has had complications in pregnancy, she was not willing to risk it.

“For me, the potential risk was not worth it," Dreonna Breton told CNN Sunday. "I'm not gonna be the one percent of people that has a problem."

Breton submitted a letter from her obstetrician that supported her decision not to get the flu shot. However, her employer disagreed and said that she would be terminated December 17 if she did not get the shot.

Alan Peterson, a spokesmen for the company, said that it is unethical for a health care worker not to be immunized against the flu and that pregnant women are even more susceptible than other workers.

Though Breton offered to wear a face mask, which is accepted for those who have religious reasons not to be immunized, Horizons Healthcare did not approve.

Breton does not intend on taking legal action. She says that she only hopes that they will reconsider their policies regarding pregnant women and immunizations. She also wants to return to her job as a nurse.
