American’s Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin has won her second World Cup trophy this Tuesday in Flachau, Australia. Shiffrin, 18 years old, completed the race in 1 minute, 45.83 seconds. Behind her, came in Swedish competitors Frida Hansdotter by .83 and Maria Pietilae-Holmner by 1.14.
NBC Sports reports that Shiffrin will be competing in the women’s Alpine skiing this Saturday and Sunday, racing in a downhill and a super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Her next race will occur in Maribor, Slovenia on Feb. 2 before the Opening Ceremony.
Shiffrin expressed her excitement in these past few races. “The first run I really let it go and gave myself a little bit of a cushion for the second run,” she said. “But second run I had a couple moves where I kind of hit the rut. I was like, ‘No, just stay the course!’ So I’m really psyched.”
The Olympics website says that when Shiffrin was 15, she won the slalom bronze in Crans Montana, Switzerland, for the Federation Internationale de Ski Junior World Ski in 2010.
Shiffrin will be competing in this year’s Olympics, which will run from Feb. 7 to Feb. 23 in Sochi, Russia.
