NBC's hit drama The Blacklist continues to be one of the hottest new shows on TV. The show just set a DVR playback record for its second original episode of the year.
The Jan. 20 installment had same-night viewership by 5.430 million, this was a new record for any U.S. broadcast or cable series. 8.83 million people previously reported "Live + same-day" ratings to 14.26 million also known as three days worth of DVR playback.
The previous record holder was also held by The Blacklist, with L+3 gain of 5.426 million, Variety added.
The show is also the top-rated new series in key demos as well as total viewers.
TV Line reported that The Blacklist has already been renewed for season two. Fox's major competition, Sleepy Hollow, came close to the The Blacklist DVR record but lost by 17%.
NBC Entertainment chair Robert Greenblatt spoke about the success of the newcomer from NBC "The success of The Blacklist demonstrates that inspired storytelling is alive and well in broadcast television, and I’m impressed on a daily basis by this creative team’s imagination and the extent to which they will go to capture this grand vision on film," said Greenblatt.
The Blacklist stars James Spader, Megan Boone and Ryan Eggold and is currently on NBC.
