Cate Blanchett receives Santa Barbara film festival's top actress award

At the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Cate Blanchett received the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award for her work in Blue Jasmine.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blanchett said, “I just can't believe that you've chosen to give this to me, but it's a great honor indeed."

Blanchett played Jasmine in Blue Jasmine. The 44 year old actress has also appeared in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Babel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age . Blanchett is starring as Claire Simone in George Clooney's The Monuments Men, premiering nationwide next Friday.

In 2008, Blanchett won the Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Past recipients of the Outstanding Performance of the Year Award include Jennifer Lawrence, Viola Davis, James Franco, Colin Firth, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Heath Ledger, and Kate Winslet.

This year, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is celebrating its 29th year. From Jan. 30 until Feb. 9, the festival will host 23 world premieres and 31 U.S. premieres. A total of 156 films will be screened this year, according to Variety.
