Vanderbilt football coach arrested

Vavae Tata was added to Vanderbilt University’s football coaching staff just last month, but has already found himself in hot water. The defensive line coach was arrested in Nashville on Sunday for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

According to yahoosports< /a> Tata blew a .18 percent on a Breathalyzer, which is more than twice the legal limit (.08) in the state of Tennessee. He also struck two park cars while driving then left the scene on foot.

According to thetennessean Vanderbilt released a statement saying, “Based upon information received Tuesday, Vanderbilt assistant coach Vavae Tata has been suspended indefinitely by Head Football Coach Derek Mason stemming from an incident that occurred Feb. 16 in Nashville. Vanderbilt University will continue its investigation into the matter.”

Tata, 37, has coached as defensive assistant at several schools including San Jose State and UCLA, his alma mater. Before coming to Vanderbilt he coached under Mason for two seasons at Stanford
