Police say missing Maryland girl found, father arrested

Police say they have found the missing Maryland girl a day after going missing, along with her father, who has been charged with first-degree murder and abduction.

Caitlyn Marie Virts was discovered with her father Timothy Howard Virts Friday night at a Florence, S.C. motel, reports The Washington Post. Police say that the 11-year-old girl is unharmed.

They also believe that the father and daughter were found likely thanks to the Amber Alert, which was expanded beyond Maryland as it was assumed that Virts would have had enough time to slip out of Maryland after the alleged murder of Bobbie Cortez.

Caitlyn will be "returned home as soon as possible," though it isn't known into whose custody she will be placed into with her father heading to jail and her mother dead.

As previously reported, the body of Caitlyn's mother, Cortez, was discovered at her home with multiple stab wounds. The little girl's twin sister and her brother were not hurt or taken when Virts fled.

It is believed that Virts is the one responsible for the mother's death after police talked with the other two adults living in the same home, but an autopsy is due to be performed to investigate further.
