Wake up and smell the bacon: Oscar Mayer launches bacon alarm app

If the smell of coffee isn’t strong enough to wake you up in the morning, Oscar Meyer has a new app that will wake you up with the smell of bacon. The company hasn’t figured out how to get an iPhone to have bacon ready for you when you wake up, but you’re bedroom will sure small like it.

The app is called “Wake Up and Smell the Bacon” and, when paired with an iPhone dongle, it can emit the smell of bacon. It is free and has you set the alarm using a skillet. Oscar Mayer also came up with an incredibly sophisticated commercial that almost seems like a Tree of Life knock-off.

“With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That’s why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most,” Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer, said Thursday, reports Mashable. The company is “thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.”

Unfortunately, while the app is free, the dongle isn’t as easy to get a hold of. You have to enter a contest at WakeUpAndSmellTheBacon.com just by taking a quiz. The winners will be picked on April 4. You will also receive a refill of the scent.

Bacon has certainly been a major inspiration for American companies. For example, you can also get bacon condoms. We still want to see the Scope bacon-flavored mouthwash, though. That really turned out to be an April Fool’s Joke.
