Celebrity Birthdays, May 25: Mike Myers and Sir Ian McKellen

Actors Mike Myers and Ian McKellen are celebrating their birthdays today.

Mike Myers, 51

Actor, comedian, singer, screenwriter and film producer Mike Myers turns 51 today. Myers first appeared in a television commercial when he was 10 years old. He then moved on to comedy; in 1985, he was one of the founding members of The Comedy Store Players, an improvisational group based at The Comedy Store in London. He then appeared on numerous television shows throughout the 1980s.

In 1992, Myers starred in the feature film, Wayne's World, alongside Dana Carvey. He then went on to star in Waynes World 2, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, as well as its sequels, Shrek and its sequels, The Cat in the Hat, The Love Guru, and Inglorious Basterds. Myers starred on Saturday Night Live from 1989–95, and made appearances in 1997, 2003, 2005 and 2011.

Myers is married to cafe owner Kelly Tisdale, and have two children.

Ian McKellen, 75

Actor Ian McKellen turns 75 today. McKellen started his career in theater, appearing in numerous productions including Hamlet, Macbeth, Peter Pan, Aladdin and Waiting for Godot. McKellen began film acting in 1969s A Touch of Love. He went on to play a few minor roles, but he didn't gain international fame until the '90s.

In 1993, McKellen starred in ix Degrees of Separation. He then went on to appear in Last Action Hero, Richard III and Apt Pupil. In 2000, McKellen played Magneto in Bryan Singer's X-Men, and reprised his role for the sequels X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. McKellen also plays the wizard Gandalf, in the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy.

McKellen has also starred in The Da Vinci Code, Stardust, The Golden Compass, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and its sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. McKellen reprised his role of Magneto for the new X-Men: Days of Future Past, and will also reprise his role as Gandalf in the third installment of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
