Astros beat Tigers 6-4, Jose Altuve hits historical mark

The Houston Astros (36-47) notched 14 hits on their way to a 6-4 series winning victory over the Detroit Tigers (44-34) Sunday.

Scott Feldman (4-5) pitched six innings of two-run ball to nab his fourth win of the season. Tiger’s pitcher Drew Smyly (4-7) lasted just 2.1 innings, giving up four runs and eight hits against the Astros lineup.

Houston won their first series in their last five attempts, and their first over Detroit since May 2009 according to MLB.com

Second baseman Jose Altuve went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases at Minute Maid Park. His two stolen bases made him the first player since 1917 to swipe more than one base in four straight games. He also leads the majors with 116 hits, just seven shy of the Astros record for most before the all-star break according to the Houston Chronicle

Youth is Houston’s strongest asset. Rookie first baseman Jon Singelton went went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Third baseman Matt Dominguez went 3-for-4 to raise his average to .237.
