J.K. Rowling posts new Harry Potter story, with Harry and friends attending Quidditch World Cup

J.K. Rowling has posted a new story set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The new short story centers on a reunion with Harry and his friends at the Quidditch World Cup.

The story was posted on Pottermore, as well as Today.com. Rowling wrote it as if she was a gossip columnist, covering celebrities at the Quidditch World Cup Finals.

Harry himself is nearing 34, and, while he has a few strands of silver hair, “he continues to wear the distinctive round glasses that some might say are better suited to a style-deficient twelve-year-old.”

Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger also appear in the piece. The group gets to sit in the VIP section of the stadium. Also, the gossip columnists have coined the term “Dumbledore’s Army” for Harry and his friends.

As for his day job, Harry currently works for the Ministry of Magic. Ron manages the Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes joke company, Hermione is the Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

According to Mashable, the post actually caused Pottermore to crash, but the story is still available on Today.com.

The story not only coincides with the real World Cup in Brazil (where the players are playing soccer, not Quidditch), but also with the opening of the Diagon Alley section at Universal Studios in Orlando. That officially opens today.
