The College of Charleston fired the men’s basketball coach Doug Wojcik on Tuesday after an investigation into allegations that Wojcik verbally abused his players and staff.
The School President Glenn McConnell said Wojcik’s dismissal was “just cause pursuant to the terms of his contract.” McConnell did not comment on the reasoning or mention any abuse stating that “the College of Charleston does not publicly discuss or comment on the specifics of personal matters, unless there is a significantly compelling or legally mandated reason to do so.” Acoording to USA Today.
McConnell launched two investigations on Wojcik concerning allegations of the coach lashing out at players with obscenities, personal attacks and physical threats.
Wojcik, 50, coached Charleston since 2012 and at Tulsa from 2005-2012. He was 38-29 since 2012, and has a career record of 179-121as a head coach. With Tulsa Wojcik composed 140 wins, a program record according to FOX.
Wojcik’s situation is very reminiscent of former Rutgers men’s basketball coach Mike Rick more than a year ago.
Reynolds Dean has been the interim head coach since the allegations surfaced.
