Californication star David Duchovny and wife Tea Leoni quietly got divorced over the past two months.
According to TMZ, who exclusively reported the news, Duchovny filed the divorce papers in June and they quickly agreed on the terms and got it all settled before the media even got a whiff.
The divorce papers say that the cause of the split was irretrievable breakdown of the relationship.
The divorce itself isn't too surprising as the couple separated twice over their nearly two decade marriage. They got married in 1997 and People reports Duchovny and Leoni separated back in 2008 while the former went into rehab over sex addiction.
They eventually got back together, but three years later in 2011, they separated again.
Duchovny and Leoni, who both live in the Upper West Side of New York City, will share joint legal custody of 15-year-old Madelaine West and 12-year-old Kyd Miller. The X-Files actor will play $8,333 in child support and Leoni will get primary physical custody.
Duchovny will also pay for other expenses for the children, including schooling. Leoni will also get $40,000 a month in spousal support.
The 54-year-old actor is set to star in an upcoming NBC event series based around Charles Manson. In the 13-episodes series, Duchovny will star was a police sergeant who goes undercover while investigating Manson as he begins to start his cult in the 1960s.
