Ed Sheeran’s X may have fallen out of the top of the U.S. charts a few weeks ago, but his sophomore album is doing much better in his native U.K. The record has topped the album for seven weeks now.
This is the longest run at the top of the Official Charts Company’s album chart since Adele’s 21 back in 2011, notes Billboard. X beat Dolly Parton’s Blue Smoke – The Best Of Dolly Parton, which was No. 2 last week as well.
Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour earned another week in the Top 5, moving up to No. 3. Ghost Stories from Coldplay has also shown longevity in the U.K., moving up as well to No. 4.
The U.K. singles chart is much more in flux by comparison. After Magic!’s “Rude” topped the chart last week, the track dropped to No. 2, notes The Press Association. The No. 1 this week was “Am I Wrong” by Norwegian duo Nico and Vinz. They are the first all-Norwegian group to hit the top since A-ha did it in 1986 with “The Sun Always Shines On TV.”
"Wow! Thanks to all our British fans for making ‘Am I Wrong’ the number one single,” the duo said in a statement released by the Official Charts Company. “Growing up in Oslo, we always dreamed of being at the top of the UK chart, so for this now to be true is completely surreal.”
The No. 3 single was OneRepublic’s “Love Runs Out.”
