New Jersey daycare aide accidentally serves water with bleach to children

A substitute teacher's aide at a Jersey City daycare accidentally gave 28 kids and two adults water with some bleached mix in on Thursday.

While serving people some water at the Growing Tree Learning Center II, the aide grabbed a bottle that teachers put both water and bleach in for cleaning, WABC-TV reports.

The Jersey City Fire Department said that the children were all taken to the Jersey City Medical Center just in case in several ambulances just in case. No one suffered any serious injuries as the actual amount of bleach in the water was fairly low.

According to the Jersey Journal, all 65 children at the daycare center were taken to the hospital to get checked out since it wasn't known which ones accidentally drank the bleach.

Executive director Pete Kearney explained that it was the aide's first day and she didn't notice there was a label on the bottle of water and bleach.

"A teacher noticed a smell of bleach and immediately stopped the children from drinking the water, collected the cups and 911 was called," he added. "The bottle should have been labeled better, the container should not have been repurposed."

The new worker was fired and the center plans to meet with parents to discuss the issue.
