Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro believed that, as the Cake Boss, he outranked the police officers trying to arrest him on drunk driving charges, prosecutors said during his arraignment Thursday.
As we previously reported, Valastro was arrested early Thursday morning in Manhattan while driving his yellow 2014 Corvette. He failed a Breathalyzer test and was then arrested.
Valastro spent the night in jail and was in court on Thursday. He was arraigned on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while impaired.
According to The New York Daily News, a prosecutor said during the hearing that Valastro tried his best to get out of the arrest, even telling an officer he couldn’t be arrested.
“You can’t arrest me. I’m the Cake Boss,” he allegedly said. Later, he told them, “Is there anything we can do? I’m a good guy. You don’t have to arrest me.”
The prosecutor said that Valastro did admit to drinking less than an hour before going behind the wheel.
Valastro, 37, was released without bail. He had a blood-alcohol level of .09, just about the .08 state legal limit, police said.
Valastro owns Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey and has been the star of TLC’s Cake Boss since 2009. The network issued a short statement, saying that they “are thankful no one was harmed. This is a personal matter for Buddy and his family.”
