Two decades ago, a woman named Linda Curry mysteriously died in June 1994, but now her husband, Paul, has been convicted of murdering her with a lethal injection of nicotine in order to collect insurance money.

Reported by LA Times, Paul, who worked as an engineer at the San Onofre nuclear power plant located in San Diego county, was an early suspect in his wife’s mysterious death, but the case soon went cold.

People reported that Paul ended up collecting over $500,000 in life insurance. The case was reopened in 2007, and according to LA Times, Curry was living in Kansas when he was arrested in 2010. He pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

Paul Curry was married to Linda Curry for 21 months, and during their marriage, Linda reportedly fell ill twice. He was questioned, because investigators determined that Linda’s IV bag had been tampered with. Paul allegedly tampered with the IV bag.

When asked in a taped police interview if anyone would want to hurt her, Linda says, “The only person I could think of that would have a motive to do it would be Paul. And the only motive I can think of is money. But I don't really even want to think that or believe that.” The tape was played for the jury.

Curry was convicted for the murder of his wife on September 30 in an Orange County Superior Court.

Best friend of Linda Curry, Merry Seabold, told People that she begged Linda “to leave him before it was too late.” She recounted how Linda didn’t want to believe that Paul was poisoning her, but added on, “But deep down I think she knew what was happening and couldn't accept the truth.”

Paul Curry is facing life in prison and a sentencing date is set for October 31.
