'Gotham': Robin Lord Taylor responds to theory that he's really playing The Joker in disguise

Oswald Cobblepot, otherwise known as The Penguin, was an odd choice for the main villain for the first season of Bruno Heller’s Gotham, so that got one Batman fan thinking that Robin Lord Taylor isn’t really playing Oswald. Perhaps he’s playing The Joker in disguise!

Taylor was asked about that theory in an MTV News interview and he had to admit, whoever put that theory together had a lot of time on their hands. The actor, who also appeared in The Walking Dead, said that he was impressed that the fan was paying such close attention to the show.

However, Taylor isn’t sure that this is something Heller plans to do.

“I find it incredibly unlikely, but at the same time, I have no idea what could happen,” Taylor told MTV. “I get the scripts and I’ll read something, and I will be just as shocked as everyone else is when they see it happen onscreen.”

Taylor does hope he will be on the show long enough to meet Gotham’s version of The Joker.

“The more rich characters from the Batman world that we can introduce, I think it’s just better for the show,” he said. “I’m just so excited to see what happens, just like everybody else.”

Gotham, which stars Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon, returned on Fox this week and you can check out our recap here. However, the next episode isn’t until Jan. 19.
