Jason Momoa reacts to Aquaman reveal, discusses role in 'Justice League'

Jason Momoa will be playing Aquaman in DC's upcoming Justice League, and we now have some new quotes from the actor about his experience with the character.

Last week we got our first look at Momoa's Aquaman via Zack Snyder, as we previously reported. The image shows the character with scaled armor, long hair and holding a trident.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Momoa said he was surprised by the reveal of the image, saying he thought his character was going to be a surprise for 2016. He said director Zack Snyder called him up and told him the image was being posted. "It was so amazing to see it come out," he said.

Momoa teased that we'll be exploring the mythology and backstory to Aquaman, which he says is pretty amazing and full of surprises.

One thing that's not totally clear is if Aquaman will actually be in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, or if we'll see him for the first time in Justice League. Momoa wouldn't answer this, instead noting that Dawn of Justice isn't his movie and talking about how exciting it will be to see Batman and Superman on screen together. Still, even though it's not Aquaman's movie, it seems pretty likely we'll at least see him in a brief cameo.

However, if Aquaman is involved in Batman v. Superman, it probably won't be in any significant action scenes. Momoa said he hasn't filmed too much action yet, noting that Justice League is still far away.

There has also been a rumor that a scene in Man of Steel in which Superman is brought to shore by whales was actually the introduction of Aquaman and that he sent those whales himself. Momoa again wouldn't confirm this, saying he'll leave it to Snyder to reveal that but saying that Snyder definitely has a plan with this whole universe.

In addition to Justice League, Momoa is also expected to star in an Aquaman solo movie to be released in 2018, as we previously reported.

Batman v. Superman opens in theaters on March 15, 2016. Justice League: Part One will be released in 2017.
