A woman in Philadelphia is facing several charges after police said she locked her four children in the basement for nearly 15 hours as punishment.
The Associated Press noted that law enforcement officials said that the mother will face four counts of endangering the welfare of a child as well as other related offenses.
WPVI reported that authorities got a call Saturday from one of the children saying that they had been locked in the basement for more than 12 hours.
While down there, investigators said that the siblings had no access to food or a toilet.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and entered the house through a second-story window, then unlocked the front door. Once inside, they found the children ages 9 to 13, locked downstairs.
The kids were each taken to a nearby hospital and evaluated.
The mother was not in the home at the time of the rescue but was found a short time later and taken in for questioning.
