Even though Fox’s Luther remake didn’t get very far, Idris Elba is still working with the network. Fox just bought a script for The Crusaders, an hour-long drama the Luther star is executive producing.
The script was written by Thomas Ikimi, who directed Elba in the 2010 film Legacy: Black Ops. According to TheWrap, it is a Legendary Television production, which Ikimi is producing through T&T Studios. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott are executive producing with Elba.
The plot centers on second generation Africans who search for valuable objects that were stolen while most of the African continent was ruled by European governments, notes Deadline.
Elba was previously working with Fox on a U.S. remake of Luther, which only made it to the pilot stage. However, it was delayed indefinitely when the network failed to find a star.
Elba likely won’t star in The Crusaders, since he’s busy with other projects. He’ll next be seen in Netflix’s Beasts Of No Nation.
