Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel’s Doctor Strange finally revealed

A month after production started on Marvel’s Doctor Strange, we finally have our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as the sorcerer.

Cumberbatch appears in full Doctor Strange garb on the cover of the new Entertainment Weekly issue. The image was one of the first times Cumberbatch put on the costume, so he was still getting used to the idea of being a Marvel hero.

“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that,” Cumberbatch told the magazine. “It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”

The new EW issue is also set to reveal who Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen will be playing. They join a cast that also includes Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Marvel announced on Nov. 24 that production started on the movie. It will not be coming out until Nov. 4, 2016, so production is in the very early stages as this point.

Doctor Strange is being directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose). It is the second of two Marvel films coming out in 2016. Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6.
