Songwriter Guy Clark has passed away at age 74

Guy Clark, a songwriter known for songs including “L.A. Freeway” and “Desperados Wait” has passed away at age 74.

Clark was born and raised in Texas and had recently been suffering from poor health. His Facebook page first announced the news.

He was still performing and released his 2013 LP titled My Favorite Picture of You. The work gave Clark a Grammy Award for Best Folk Album, Rolling Stone reported.

He grew up with a knowledge of poetry and an understanding of using his imagination, which would eventually help him as he learned to create some of his signature sounds on the guitar.

He did live in Los Angeles for a time with his wife, Susanna, but eventually followed friends to Nashville in hopes of continuing his music. It was there he developed his first album Old No. 1.

His success came when others would do covers of his music, including “Heartbroke” by Ricky Skaggs.

Clark was nominated for many Grammy awards, but didn’t get one until his last album. His wife preceded him in death in 2012.

Clark had a son, Travis, from his first marriage to folksinger Susan Spaw. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dylan and Ellie Clark and two sisters.

After his death, celebrities spoke about the loss on Twitter.
