'M*A*S*H' star William Christopher dies at 84

William Christopher, the actor famous for portraying Father Mulcahy on the television show M*A*S*H, has died. He was 84.

According to CNN, Christopher was diagnosed with a small carcinoma a year and a half ago. Christopher's son, John, said that his father's condition began to decline a few weeks ago and prior to that time he was in good health.

In addition to M*A*S*H, Christopher was also known for his voice acting talents. He provided the voice of Angel Smurf in The Smurfs and also made appearances in Murder, She Wrote, Heaven Sent and Days of Our Lives. In the latter two, Christopher also portrayed a priest.  He was seen in Days of our Lives in 2012.

Christopher's agent Robert Malcolm told the Associated Press that the actor died peacefully and painlessly at his home on Dec. 31 with his wife by his side. William Christopher is survived by his wife and two sons.
