'Scandal' will reportedly end after season 7

We have some bad news for Scandal fans. It has been reported that the drama, which brought us the iconic Olivia Pope character, will end after season seven.

All good things must come to an end and that includes the beloved Shonda Rhimes political thriller. This news was first reported by TVLine and while ABC has yet to comment, an official announcement that the show will in fact conclude after the seventh season is expected to be made next week.

Scandal is one of those shows, unlike Rhimes' other drama Grey's Anatomy, that has a shelf life and needs to come to an end.

The decision to pull the plug on the series now is really a no-brainer as viewership has been declining for some time. In its sixth season, Scandal has been averaging less then 6 million viewers which is way down from season 4, which pulled in 12 million viewers for its premiere.

The only question left now will be how Rhimes will choose to end the show and even she seems unsure of what way to go with that.

"I used to know how it ended and then Donald Trump was elected," Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview for its 100th episode. "We had a destination and I don't know if that's our destination anymore."
