‘Hitman’s Bodyguard’ repeats as box office champion

The box office just had one of their worst weekends in over 15 years. The combined domestic gross of the top twelve films failed to top $50 million. The only good news came for The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which retained the top spot at the box office.

The Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L. Jackson action comedy brought in $10.3 million and is close to passing $40 million domestically.

Annabelle: Creation came in second place for the second straight weekend with $7.7 million and is about to pass $80 million domestically after 17 days.

The new animated release Leap! opened in third place with $4.7 million. This shows how slow the box office was as the third place release didn’t even break $5 million.

Wind River saw the largest leap as it jumped six spots to fourth place with $4.6 million and has now passed $10 million domestically.

Logan Lucky rounds out the top five with $4.4 million. The film has only brought in $15 million domestically.

Dunkirk passed $170 million domestically after 38 days and Spider-Man: Homecoming is closing in on $320 million domestically after 52 days.

Birth of the Dragon opened in eighth place with $2.7 million. It should also be noted that the Mayweather/McGregor fight was shown in theaters and actually made $2.6 million from these showings.

We don’t have any new wide releases and it’s Labor Day weekend so it could be another really rough weekend at the box office.
