“The world will look up and shout ‘Save us!’…and I’ll look down and whisper ‘No.’”
Watchmen, based on the iconic graphic novel by Alan Moore, marks director Zack Snyder’s first venture into the world of DC, for better or worse. Taking place in an alternate 1985, the film tells of a group of former superheroes struggling to cope with their identity while also being thrown into a much larger mystery. The film isn’t perfect and ultimately can’t live up to the incredibly high bar that the novel set, but it does a lot of things right and capitalizes on that bleak, desolate world created by Moore. It’s worth watching for Jackie Earle Haley’s Rorschach alone.
