Colin Trevorrow is returning to 'Jurassic World' to direct the third film in the franchise

Looks like director Colin Trevorrow has decided to the Jurassic World franchise since he couldn't stick the landing on helming Star Wars: Episode IX.

Trevorrow, who directed and co-wrote the first Jurassic World and helped pen the script for the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, has officially been tapped to direct the third film in the franchise. Because, you know, apparently we need a whole trilogy of Jurassic World films.

Pacific Rim: Uprising writer Emily Carmichael is helping Trevorrow write the script. Both of them will also serve as executive producers, as will original Jurassic Park creator Steven Spielberg.

“It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to see our storytelling fresh and alive,” Trevorrow said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty that J.A. has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”

The film, released by Universal, has been given a June 11, 2021 release date. Fallen Kingdom will first be hitting theaters this summer, on June 22.

Here’s the thing — we don’t need this movie. We don’t really need a sequel to Jurassic World either. You could probably make a pretty convincing that we never actually needed Jurassic World in the first place.

Yes, the first movie made bucks and buckets of cash at the box-office so a sequel was more or less inevitable, but I think I’m over these movies. Jurassic Park is one of the greatest movies of all time (fight me), I even like The Lost World. Since Spielberg left, however, none of the films have been able to recapture that magic.

That’s just my opinion though, so let us know in the comments below what you think. Do we need a third Jurassic World movie? Is Colin Trevorrow the guy to do it? Do you think they’re really going to stoop so low to make the story revolve around dinosaurs being militarized, or do they have something else in store for us?
