'Last Week Tonight:' John Oliver talks corporate taxes and Russell Crowe memorabilia

"It wasn't us. We didn't buy it... We did, though."

On this week's episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the host took a look at a tumultuous week in America, an analysis of corporate taxes, and bought some interesting memorabilia to save the last Blockbuster store in the country.

After a crazy week in the White House that culminated in missile strikes to Syria and an exclusive interview with James Comey, it almost seemed like too much for John Oliver to talk about. Watch the whole clip below, but the most compelling discussion is on Trump's use of the phrase: "mission accomplished."

"If Donald Trump's mission was to descend so far into self-parody that he actually burrows into the Earth and then come up the other side, then mission fucking accomplished," Oliver ended the segment with.

The main story of the week was taxes, "basically the government's go fund me." With tax day coming up on April 17, Oliver wanted to take a glimpse at the lengths companies will go to to avoid paying taxes.

For years, there has been compelling evidence that shows that companies like Google and Apple funnel funds through countries that have little to no taxes on corporations. Even with the new tax bill in effect this year that aims at bringing back profit and jobs to America, Oliver argues that the bill does little to close loopholes in our corporate tax structure.

It doesn't look like much is going to stop companies from funneling money to other countries in the future.

But, the highlight of Last Week Tonight was the closing segment. John Oliver took a look at the mystical remaining Blockbuster stores privately owned in Alaska. Unfortunately, they have to shut down. But, Oliver has other plans.

In a move that should surprise no one, Oliver bought Russell Crowe's leather jockstrap from the movie Cinderella Man for $7,000. He didn't stop there. He also bought the director's chair from American Gangster, the vest from Les Miserables, and other Crowe merchandise, all for the last remaining Blockbuster store in Alaska.

To the manager at the only remaining Blockbuster in Anchorage, Alaska, all of this is yours. Just call us in the next 48 hours and we will send it to you.”

So far, the store has not reached out to the star of Last Week Tonight. If they don't, Oliver will send it to the Scranton museum where their train set currently resides with his face as a tunnel.

I personally hope the Blockbuster gets these items and becomes a historical monument to preserved.
