Indie Video Games: Celebrity Cafe Episode One! [VIDEO REPORT]

Gaming is trickling into the forefront of the mainstream stratosphere of multimedia culture. Due to live-streaming services, such as Twitch, which record what gamers playing, celebrity and the quick-strike-viral nature of social media content, gaming has stepped into public interest.

In our debut episode of Celebrity Cafe, starring Savannah Rose, we explore some of the best Indie gaming experiences on the market. Watch the video, and let us know what you think the best Indie games are!

A mixture of rappers, actors and athletes all play video games and also actively stream their games. For example, Drake, Travis Scott, Ben Simmons, Karl-Anthony Towns, Gordon Hayward, Jerry Ferrara and T-Pain have either streamed or are active gamers.

But essentially what this means for gaming in the mainstream is that more new games will also be pushed to the center of the multimedia conglomerates. Fortnite, PubG and Rocket League have skyrocketed in popularity thanks to niche gaming’s rise with the majority.

The gaming industry is a continuously growing one, but indie games are also making strides into the mainstream of interest with young gamers. Most times, prior to getting an Xbox or PlayStation, young gamers gravitate to online games like Celeste and Crypt of the Necrodancer as niche games that start their gaming appetite. And from that perspective, Indie games are integral parts of the gaming enhancement and focus going forward.

Here are a few games that have next that you might know of or you may not know yet that will adequately supplement the niche genre of gamers.

Night in the Woods

Night in the Woods is a 2-D single-player adventure game that was released in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch just to name a few. The game is a story-mode focused game centered around a young woman named Mae, founded by the crowd-funding platform Kickstarter. The Australian studio Secret Lab orchestrated the narrative of the game and they've created the mobile version also.

Everything

Everything is a simulation game for PlayStation 4 where the gamer plays as the universe—yes, the universe. The game was created by David Oreilly and it contains thousands of characters to play. The player begins as a creature that can move around and eventually transforms into smaller forms of matter, ultimately controlling landscapes, planets and entire solar systems.

West of Loathing

West of Loathing is a role-playing comedic video game that was developed by Asymmetric Publications in August 2017. The setting is an odd western themed frontier scenery. Rolling Stone described it as “one of the year’s best games.” The game is made of stick figures and it’s a single-player game with turn-based combat.

Tacoma

Tacoma is a sci-fi centric narrative adventure video game. This game takes place in the year 2088 in the realms of space. The gameplay focuses on Amy, who has an augmented reality device that enables her to review actions and conversations—which she can manipulate. The player uses Amy and the device to figure out different clues throughout the game’s story arc.

Cuphead

When you think about Cuphead, think about Super Mario Bros.  This game is essentially another Super Mario Bros. game with cupheads acting as Mario and his brother Mugman as Luigi. The game is a run and gun indie video game developed and published by StudioMDHR. The game is inspired by the rubber house style of animation used in the cartoons of the 1930s.
