Black Keys musician Richard Swift dead at 41

Musician Richard Swift, bassist in The Black Keys and former member of The Shins, died Thursday morning in Tacoma, Washington, at age 41.

His death was confirmed by his bandmate Dan Auerbach in an Instagram post, as well as a Facebook post on his own account.

In mid-June, a GoFundMe campaign launched to cover Swift's medical bills for a serious illness, according to Pitchfork.

Swift was born in California and was a self-taught musician and producer, according to The Independent. He toured with The Shins from 2011 to 2016 as a drummer. He was also a bassist for The Black Keys in 2014 and played drums for the Arcs.

As a producer, Swift worked with artists such as Sharon Van Etten and Foxygen, among others. He founded and owned his own recording studio in Oregon, called National Freedom.

Swift also had a solo career and released his last solo album in 2009, titled The Atlantic Ocean.
