Epic Games releases Unreal engine updates prompted by Fortnite

Fortnite developer Epic Games released major technical improvements to its Unreal game engine which will affect many other titles supported by the engine.

Some of these updates are direct or indirect results of the popularity of Fortnite, including improved cross-platform compatibility and better support for the Switch. Artist teams have also been granted optimized tools. Independent developers now have access to the tools Epic Games built, which will undoubtedly make for more beautiful indie games to come.

Included in the updates, reports TechCrunch, are a new visual effects engine that will allow more fine detail to come to particle effects (like an explosion). I’m excited for what these improved updates will bring to the indie game scene! As technology improves, so do the look and feel of video games, and the fun factor rises exponentially.

All Unreal engine improvements are included in the 4.20 update.

Video game characters you won't believe are total eye candy
