"The Miniaturist" debuts for three-episode miniseries in September

The Miniaturist, a three-part miniseries from PBS, will debut on September 9.

The series, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Jessie Burton, follows the story of Nella (Anya Taylor-Joy) as she marries trader Johannes Brandt (Alex Hassell) and moves into an unwelcoming house in 1600s Amsterdam. Her frigid sister-in-law, Marin, (Romola Garai, of The Crimson Petal and the White) does not help matters. Her husband gifts her a miniature version of their house, and she engages a woman to create pieces to fashion the cabinet. However, the items the miniaturist sends seem to eerily predict the future, as well as reveal secrets of the occupants of the house.

The series debuted on BBC last December.

Burton wholeheartedly approved of the finished production, according to Deadline, saying: "It was so exquisitely cast. It was just a joy and fairly effortless. It isn’t an overwhelming feeling, it was just, ‘Yeah that’s my book.’".

SyFy considers this adaptation a potential candidate for the historical thriller or horror genre, with an added bonus in tow because it possesses a feminist message.

We'll just have to see when it premieres on September 9!
