‘Mission: Impossibe: Fallout’ repeats as box office champion

Mission: Impossibe: Fallout

Mission: Impossibe: Fallout finished at the top of the box office for the second straight weekend.

Fallout took a 43 percent drop during its second weekend and brought in $35 million and has a current domestic gross of $124 million. This film has been receiving great reviews and I would expect the film to have some continued success at the box office. The film brought in $76 million and the film has brought in $205 million internationally.

Disney’s Christoper Robin opened in second place with $25 million. This is a bit lower than expectations but I still think a gross of at least $50-$60 million domestically is realistic. The film also opened in 18 international markets and brought in $4.8 million.

The Spy Who Dumped Me starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon opened in third place with $12.4 million. I predict this film will finish between $30-$40 million domestically. This is a bit lower than the last opening of a Mila Kunis film A Bad Moms Christmas ($16.8 million)

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! dropped two spots to fourth place with $9.1 million and just crossed $90 million domestically. The film also brought in $19.3 million internationally and now has a worldwide gross of over $230 million.

The Equalizer 2 drops two spots and rounds out the top five with $8.8 million and is just shy of $80 million domestically. It is only $20 million behind passing the original film’s domestic gross and I think it is going to finish just below that number.

The other wide release of the weekend had a very disappointing opening. The Darkest Minds opened in eighth place with $5.8 million. This ranks as the 11th worst opening all-time for a film that opened in over 3,000 locations. I expect this to be the only week this film finishes inside the top ten.

Hotel Transylvania 3 brought in $8.2 million and is approaching $140 million domestically. Ant-Man and the Wasp brought in $6.2 million and is approaching $200 million domestically.

Incredibles 2 finished in ninth place with $5 million and just crossed $580 million domestically. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies dropped five spots and 53 percent during its second weekend and finished in tenth place with $4.9 million. The film’s gross stands around $20 million domestically.

It’s safe to say that Fallout has a chance of being the box office champion as it faces competition from the new wide releases including the new horror film Slender Man, which will open in over $2,000 locations.
